{April 15, 2008}   challenge results for 4/14

so here’s the rundown on today…i tried both fitday and nutridiary for comparisons.i prefer fitday, it gives more information about nutrition (ie other vitamins besides calcium, iron, a and c)
i had 2308 calories it was a higher fat day…70% carbs, 18% fat and 12% protien

i didn’t feel like workingout but i mademyself do it, despite a sinus headache that was bothering me off and on all day.
i did 75 situps, 75 pushups, 25 minutes of yoga and 15 minutes of bellydancing.
RDA%
vit. A 1680.6%   vit D 0%  vit E 234.13%  vit K 1590.7%

i had a larabar, herbal tea with agave, 2 bananas, my good morning smoothie, sprouted chickpea hummus, carrot sticks, tomato and cucumber salad, a banana blueberry aand spinach smoothie (2 c spinach, 2 bananas, 1 cup blueberries, water and agave), and a spinach salad, and a handful of goji berries.
i’ll check my weight wednesday morning…i’m not a fan of checking it daily.

i’ll say, it’s been so long since i last did any belly dancing, and that was before the boys were born…my belly was doing a little extra jiggle of it’s own, but it felt great to be dancing again. it reminded me of the devine feminine…and gave me a renewed stregnth of spirit. reminding me of the goddess within. it was rather empowering. i’ll be trying to pick up one of my books about the goddess within/the divine feminine and start reading it when i get a chance.i haven’t taken enough time for myself and my spirit lately…the boys take up so much of my focus.

{April 13, 2008}   new challenge!

i’m tiered (the boys were keeping me up from 2:30 until 5:30, then woke up for the day at 6:45….so i got less sleep than i wanted). i do seem to have a fair amount of energy comming from some unknown reserve, though…maybe it’s due to the beautiful, sunny day and the warm weather. maybe it’s due to jack johnson’s guitar playing and melodic voice…or maybe it’s that yummy smoothie that says “good morning” to my tummy. i got a shovel yesterday….so i have to finish sorting through my closet today and get digging in the back yard. oh yeah, yesterday i dug out some pants and skirts i haven’t been able to wear for almost 2 years….and some from before i moved to florida that my mom had….guess what???
 Grin

i’ve got a whole new wardrobe of skirts and a few pairs of pants that actually fit my thinner new body! my extra huge, milky boobs get in the way of the smaller tops, though.

i was thinking of splurging by buying a few new tops, then it’ll seem like an entierely new wardrobe. anyone need any size 16 or 14 pants and or skirts?
yay for 10′s and 12′s!
anyway, since i agreed to another challenge on the reallyrawfood forum…i’ll set my goals.
100% raw vegan (not 811, for now) for the next 31 days, fat not to excede 20%  1600+ calories per day. i’m currently doing 25 minutes of yoga a day so i’ll aim at getting up to 45 minutes of yoga each morning by the end of the 31 days, along with 2-4 30 minute to hour long walks with the boys each week and i’m going to start belly dancing again..starting at 15 minutes and working up to 30 minutes a day by the end of the challenge. i’ll also get back to the push-ups and sit-ups…75 of each every day. i’ll aim at recycling 10 lbs in the 31 days, and/or 1.5-2 inches off my waistline…and we’ll start today.
        current weight 186 lbs
        current waist 34.5 inches.
 Grin Grin Grin
(oh and i won’t beat myself up if i slip…i’ll just hop back on board)

{April 11, 2008}   i’m bad about blogging…

i’m tiered right now…it’s overcast and i’m detoxing…yuk! i’ve been running around trying to get ready for the boys’ birthday party, and getting ready to have houseguests (my friend traci is going to be staying here for 4 days). i’ve also been doing yard work and gardening. well, i’m now down to 186 lbs…and it’s dropping by about 2-3 lbs a week. i’m up to nearly 25 minutes of yoga every morning (i’ll be at 25 minutes or more by next week- i’m trying to add 2 or more addional poses a week, then i’ll be back up to a full hour each morning by the end of the summer). i’ve been taking the boys on long walks 2-4 times a week and staying raw (with between15% and 20% of calories from fat). connor has stood unsupported a few times, but didn’t realise that he was, he walks a little, when holding on to things…decn still prefers sitting and crawling, he tends to stand on his tiptoes and will occasionally take a step when holding on to someone or something…he likes to observe everything from a comfortable spot, whereas connor likes to get up close and touch everything.

{April 4, 2008}   i’m back!

i had a series of issues and got seriously stressed out, i ended up eating cooked, and getting worse (it all happened at once…my allergies got really bad, ccausing some big sinus headaches and itchy/watery eyes- which happens every spring, at the same time i got a seriosly dry skin thing….where my arms looked like they were covered in scales and had red areas, then my uncle called my mom very upset about his situation in florida, so we sent him some money to help out and i started trying to find him work up here, and i started stressing out realising how soon the boys’ birthday is, after eating cooked the dry skin thing also decided to spread to my belly area). so now i’m back i’ve been doing raw for the last 2 days and already seeing some improvement in my skin (i’m also alternating between coconut oil and shea butter on the dry areas). my aergies and sinuses are still acting up, so i don’t spend much time online….it’s hard to read with your head pounding. (i figure eating raw, and detoxing will eventually make it better…i’ve just got to actually hang in there when it gets tough).

i do fell a lot better when i do all raw and exercise daily, i just have to remember to drink enough water, and i have a tough time if i try to keep my fat intake really low. i find that i tend to do one day lowish then several where i go high on the fat, and i am constantly hungry and my energy actually takes a dip, so i need some fat daily. i was going to wait until my hair got longer to dreadlock it, but i decided that it should be a total transformation….a total lifestyle change, so when the conditioner i’ve been using is done i’m dreading it up. i found some great all natural, vegan (even SLS free) products to use on dreadlocks. i’m also in the process of setting up a home altar, for my meditation area, and decorating the house to make it reflect my personality/lifestyle. now, i’ve gotta go get working on getting directions to accompany the birthday party invitations. (i’ts only 17 days until the party). Tongue

i started today with my favorite smoothie, then a great snack, and some yummy lettuce wraps for lunch. (i photographed my lunch and will post those soon.)

i didn’t get around to posting last night, i was too tiered…here’s yesterday’s results
Calories 2274  79% carbs  6% protien 15 % fat
(my fat was way high! i was doing great until dinner and i gave into my fat cravings and made almond pate, which threw everything off)
i did do 50 sit ups and 50 push ups (i didn’t do my usual evening set) i did about 10 minutes of yoga and brought the boys on a 30 minute walk, there was a cold harsh wind, or i would have done a longer walk….today looks nice so i figure we’ll get out for a nice long walk this morning.
i’m out of oranges and strawberries and cilantro, so today i started the day with a banana based smoothie, it is good, but not as good as the orange and strawberry.i’ll be grocery shopping later so i can get more oranges and strawberries. i’m hoping to keep my fat much lower today and tommarrow.

{March 21, 2008}   spring has sprung!

i did 15 minutes of yoga this morning, 75 push-ups and 75 sit-ups
1883  claories   86%carbs, 6% protien, 8% fat

it’s the first  of spring…i’m feeling a little low this evening, it’s been a log and dreary day, on the plus side it looks like we have some sun coming our way for the next 3 days.

i made a great smoothie today 12 oz off fresh orange juice, 1 pint of strawberries and 12 cup of cilantro blended together. i was thinking of calling it my good morning smoothie. i felt great after having it for breakfast this morning.

unfortunately, this afternoon had me feeling a bit low, i had a ton of paperwork i have to get done this week and with all the clouds and rain, i was feeling tiered and dreary.this evening i’m going to do a good meditation. i need the qiet reflection, right now.

{March 20, 2008}   challenge day 3

here we go…
i did 75 push-ups, 75 sit-ups 15 minutes of yoga
1 ate 1496 calories   87% carbs 6% protien and 7% fat
my RDA…
Vitamin A 321%    Vitamin C 941%

Calcium 66%    Iron 53%

a bit low on the calories and in the calcium and iron dept, but also low on the fat and protien.

it’s hard to keep it all in balance without eating more than i’m hungry for. i’m a bit tiered, it’s been a long day.

{March 18, 2008}   spring is about to spring!

down to buisness first…

i did 75 push-ups, 75 sit-ups, took the boys on a 45 minute walk (we even bought some flowers at the garden shop up the street), spent 45 minutes raking leaves in our front yard.
i am going to do yoga and meditation this evening.
   i ate 2200 calories   83% carbs 11% fat and 6%protien
i got 347% RDA of my vitamin A
511% RDA of my vitamin C
          56% RDA of my calcium
          75% RDA of my Iron
my fat is a little high today, but it’ll even out in the wash.

i find it hard to stay 811, the raw and vegan part are easier than the 10% fat and 10% protien….sometimes i feel rundown and a handful of nuts helps me feel satietated and energised. our bodies do need some fat, at least some good fat, we just don’t want to overdo it. it’s good to have an understanding of what we take in on a daily basis and how it affects us.

well, the garden shop up the street was open today. when we were on or walk we decided to stop and check it out…the boys were a big help…we picked out 3 nice colours of pansies (a deep/dark pink, a deep velvety purple and a nice shade of bright, golden orange), then we found a gerbera daisy for my grandmother, in a beautiful shade of pink. we met a dog named lilly who wasn’t sure what to think of those little pink things that were bouncing around in the thing with the wheels, and barked…this didn’t phase connor, but made declyn jump, pout and fuss for a second, until mommy re-assured him that it was ok. i got out into the front yard and raked up most of the leaves when we got home. it’s only 2 days until the vernal equinox, spring is about to spring and i am loving it.

{March 18, 2008}   st. patricks day

happy st. patrick’s day! i was MIA for a few days, my father’s family had thier anual st. patrick’s day celebration saterday and it pooped the boys and i out, they have been demanding tons of attention since then. i did stay raw and the challenge starts today.

weigh in…
   weight-192
   measurements…
   upper arm- 12 3/4 inches
   chest- 45 3/4 inches
   upper abs- 35 1/4 inches
   waist- 35 1/2 inches
   lower ab – 37 3/4 inches
   hip- 40 1/2 inches
   thigh- 23 3/4 inches

today i did 75 push-ups, 75 sit-ups and a deep breathing/physical awareness yoga exercise/meditation.
i ate 1765 calories   81% carbs, 9% protien and 10% fat
592% of the RDA of vitamin A
763% of the RDA of vitamin C
84% of the RDa for calcium
101% of the RDA for iron

the boys are giving me a rather tough time and are pooping me out, so i’ll be off to bed early tonight.

i slept much better last night than the night before. we woke up and declyn and i did yoga , while connor harrassed my grandmother. i decided to track my nutritional intake using nutridiary, the challenge officially starts monday, but one of the other participants started tracking, so i am as well…here we go…

               calories – 2049

breakdown of  caloric %- 81% carbohydrates, 12% fat and 7% protien

and for anyone who thinks you can’t meet all your nutritional needs while eating raw vegan…

                280% RDA of diatary fibre

                1090% RDA of vitamin A

                852% RDA of vitamin C

                103% RDA of calcium

                127% RDA of iron

                42 grams of protien.

looks good to me! I want my fat to be lower over all, but it can be slightly high some days as long as it balances out in the end.

on another note the boys had a rather pleasant bath tonight, they both started playing the instant they hit the water, splashing and giggling and not even more than a grunt of resistance to the washing and rinsing. getting them out was the hardest part…they hate getting dried off and diapered and dressed. we are all in good spirits now, though and i’ll be taking a little quiet time this evening to meditate for the first time in almost a year.
